His arsenal provides him with some of the best answers to mutators of any character in co-op, as for nearly every mutator, Zeratul has a response of some sort, whether it be Tesseract Cannons, Ambushers, Void Templars, the Avatar of Essence, or the free Heroic unit given to him at 4 minutes. Not only does Zeratul have a very wide variety of strategies possible, but they are all relevant and usable in mutations to some capacity, preventing him from being a one-trick pony and allowing him to use other strategies where one may fail.
His extremely high rankings are due to several factors. He is currently ranked 2nd on the tier list for anti-mutation gameplay, being surpassed only by Abathur. This makes Zeratul one of the strongest commanders in all of co-op. His mutation performance correspondingly is extremely impressive, getting very strong results in the gamemode regularly, beating every other commander except for Abathur in this regard. The abilities he gains thanks to the artifact mechanics are some of the best answers to mutations in the entirety of the game, which in turn renders Zeratul an extremely effective answer to nearly any mutator co-op can throw at him. His gameplay style revolves around him using Xel'Naga enhanced Protoss units that have unique abilities normally not available to any other commander, and Zeratul's entire arsenal as a whole gains power throughout the game thanks to Zeratul's unique "Artifact Fragment" mechanic. He was released in Patch 4.7.0 and is the 16th commander released in the gamemode. Zeratul is a commander playable in Starcraft II's Co-op gamemode.
